I'm sorry you didn't get to take your trip back East - or rather, Jude didn't get his trip - but if it's any consolation, we didn't take our once-every-two-years vacation, either. For the same reason - we simply couldn't justify the expense. And we're both working.

Now about these peppermint martinis - I've been out of the loop for about a week, too. You didn't happen to post the recipe, did you?

The Bug

Oh Fancy & Matthew are too sweet! I'm glad Jude got one of his heart's desires... Glad you're back too!

Heather (qtberryhead)

Glad you had a good one...even though it didn't include sleeping at the airport ;)
Deboning fish is ALL about the knife. Even then it takes some major practice. You're a super hostess!
Cute doggie! It's so great when you find a pet that "fits" in your family. That whole meant-to-be-hearts-coming-out-of-your-head...awesome. That's why I have a freakin shelter going on at my house.
Congrats on the new baby family member...bummer you guys can't see him soon. Jude rocks...you know that right?
Have an awesome New Years!

Michele Renee

Your son is so sweet!!! I love how your blog is documenting the wonderful things that he says and does.
About that fish: I cannot believe what you had to do to get the bone out.
How many people were having peppermint martinis? Pls tell me they had little candy canes in them??
P.S. What would be a good cocktail for a blue moon new year's even party??

Gretchen

Since both Jan and Michele Renee have asked for the Peppermint Martini recipe...

5 oz. vanilla Vodka
2 oz. white creme de menthe
1/2 oz. peppermint Schnapps

The white c de m was a pain to find, but I was afraid that green c de m would make it look like we were drinking NyQuil.

I crushed candy canes in the food processor and then used it to rim the martini glasses - very festive wait, is rimming something dirty? well, you know what I mean).

They were really tasty and not only got you tanked, but gave you minty fresh breath.

Gretchen, you rock! Rim... minty fresh breath.... you're my type of girl!! What kind of dog is Fancy? She is SOOO cute! and yes, Matthew is a doll too! So happy for the new addition!!! :)
