Today, Jude and I venture east to New York for a three week visit with the in-laws. No, you are not misreading that. We will, in fact, be there for three weeks. Which seems terribly long, but I have learned that the longer we stay, the more things I WANT to do get done, as opposed to simply the things I HAVE to do. And yes, we are going to stay with Jimmy's family without Jimmy, which makes many people believe that they must be polishing my halo in heaven right now, but is actually easier than traveling WITH Jimmy. My pat reply is that families always push your buttons because they installed them, and Jimmy's family didn't install my buttons (though they have discovered a few of them over the years). When Jimmy is with us, there is always some sort of family brouhaha, which usually results in tears and screaming and chest-thumping and one or two crazy Italians trying to pull their own hair out in misery. So...better without him.
I'm a little worried about my beloved mother-in-law, Mommy. She fell a couple of weeks ago. Which is bad for almost 84-year olds. Luckily, nothing was broken, and no major damage was done. But...she seems a little slow-moving, and not herself. As a result of her fall, Pop, who has never lifted a finger for the past 60 years, is actually...brace yourselves...doing some housework. Which makes me think that he's a little worried about her too. Apparently, he's been getting "gold stars" (Mommy's phrase) for doing dishes and making beds and such. However, it has been reported that he's started asking "When is she getting here?". Meaning...me. So I think it's expected that I do a little work on my..."vacation". Which I don't really mind. A little cooking and bathroom scrubbing is the LEAST I can do for such excellent in-laws.
As always, I will do my best to keep you all abreast of my adventures in New York. In the meantime, here are links to some "Best of Mommy" posts. Those of you who are new to Second Blooming, should probably check them out so you know just who Mommy and Pop are. Note: they are real characters, who you too will love.
