This is my favorite picture of my paternal grandparents...
Valentine's Day, 1932. Don't you love it?
Look closely at the necklace that Grandma is wearing...
It's a gold heart locket, and inside it is a tiny picture of...Grandpa. So sweet.
After Grandma died in 1964, the locket was handed down to me. I wore it constantly through high school...
...and off and on over the many years since then, until a few years ago, when...I couldn't find it.
I refused to actually use the word "lost". I dug through boxes of jewelry - the "good" jewelry, the crummy jewelry. I searched drawers, jewelry bags, every hidey-hole I had. It was nowhere.
And I had no idea what I could have done with it. Had I taken it off and put it in a handbag? Had I stowed it away somewhere "safe"? Had it just dropped off my neck while I was wearing it?
Through my life, I've lost a few very nice pieces of jewelry, which is always heartbreaking, but this one REALLY got me. It was Grandmas! It still had the tiny picture of Grandpa in it (though it was now so faded you couldn't tell who it was)! Where oh where could it have gone?
Eight years ago, when we moved into our house, we ended up with a few boxes of odds and ends that got stuck in the garage because I didn't know what to do with them, and we didn't have much storage space. Last summer, we fixed up our attic, and over the past year, I've gradually been dragging boxes in from the garage, one at a time, sorting through them, and hauling them up into the attic.
So a couple of weeks ago, I brought in a few more boxes, to deal with them. And, you guessed it, there was the locket! There it was in a jewelry box which I forgot I ever even owned. Along with a few other things I'd forgotten I even had. I actually started to cry.
I'm so happy and relieved! I've been wearing it every day. Here I am at the waterpark yesterday...
...and yes, I am just the teensiest bit sunburned.
Isn't it lovely? I adore it even more now. I hope to wear it until I die and can pass it down to Jude's daughter.
Let's hope she can keep track of it better than I did!

Next week on The Spin Cycle...
Art
Last week, the topic was Music, and Ginny Marie at Lemon Drop Pie wrote a piece about her sister the composer. At the end of her post she hinted that if I would hand out Art as a topic, she could write about her other sister the artist. So...here you go Ginny! I am nothing if not obliging.
Art. Hmmm...
Fine art? Folk art? Modern art? Performance art? Applied art?
Artsy-fartsy? Artsy-craftsy? Art student? Art history? Art Linkletter. Artful Dodger?
Write your spin on "Art". Post it. Let me know. I'll link it here. Any time before next Friday.
Share your spin!
Highlight the code.
Copy to your HTML.
Et voila! Linked!
I'm so glad you found the locket! It would have been so sad if it was lost forever.
Hurray for the art prompt! (Thank you!)
Here's my post for this week's Spin:

Hell, I almost cried too! Eight years? Wow. That picture of your grandparents is FABULOUS! Makes me want to take some just so my kids and grandkids will have something special of us to look at. And um, your senior picture is um, kinda hot.

So glad you have the locket again! Beautiful picture of your grandparents, too. I have one of my maternal grandparents, and I absolutely treasure it.
