Good Lord, is it Tuesday again? It seems like it's always Tuesday! Well here I go with another attempt at Random Tuesday Thoughts...
I have survived Holy Week. Whew. Unfortunately, I have now started Easter Break, the dreaded time when I am forced to actually care for my own child for an entire week. What are these school people thinking about anyway? Themselves, clearly. Think they deserve a vacation. Huh! I wouldn't be so bitter if I was one of the mommies at Jude's school whose family takes a fabulous Spring vacation. Hawaii. Mexico. Palm Springs. Everybody other than us seems to be going somewhere exotic and relaxing. Our big destination? Knott's Berry Farm. So I guess my exotic and relaxing location will be...Anaheim.
Easter was excellent. My choir's singing was stupendous, and we all rocked our big hats and Easter dresses. Somebody took pictures, but it wasn't me, so I'll have to wait to share our fabulousness with all of you. I was talking to Mommy, my mil, and she said that nobody at her church on Long Island dresses up for Easter. Which just made me so sad. What's the world coming to? I remember having a new Easter dress and hat every year of my childhood, and Mama would accessorize me with white gloves, a muff and Mary Janes. There is nothing sweeter than a little kid in their Easter clothes.
I had purchased for Jude a good collared shirt, a tie and a little navy blue jacket for his Easter ensemble. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of leaving the house early for pre-mass choir rehearsal, and entrusting Jimmy with Jude's clothing and maintainance. They got to church and of course his shirt was untucked, his hair was unbrushed, and they hadn't been able to figure out how to get his tie on (it was a CLIP-ON for God's sake), so Jimmy had tied a jaunty ascot around his neck. He looked like a little Frank Sinatra singing "One For My Baby and One More For the Road". Sigh...
Then we went out for an early Easter dinner with Jimmy's cousins. We pulled up at the restaurant and found Cousin George standing on the street looking nervous. Turns out, the restaurant where we had the reservation had just burned down. Well, that's an exaggeration, they had a fire in their kitchen, but it might as well have burned down, because we had to find another place at the last minute, which isn't easy. We managed to find another Italian restaurant a couple of blocks away that could seat us, and it all ended up very nice.
Suddenly, in the middle of dinner, I had the strangest feeling. Like my wine had suddenly hit me hard, or that my dreaded vertigo had suddenly returned. The next thing I know, all the employees of the restaurant are running around like crazy, grabbing the chandeliers, which were swaying like crazy. It was an earthquake! And a weird one too, no shaking, just kind of a strong movement, like on a boat. Turns out it was a 7.2, which is HUGE, but it was centered far to the south in Tijuana. Dramatic Easter, right? Would have been more liturgically correct for Good Friday, but Easter will do.
All these earthquakes lately have me a little nervous. We haven't had a "big one" out here in quite a while. I'm crossing my fingers that this one in Tijuana has taken some of the pressure off our local faults. Yikes. But, you know, people say things to me all the time about how they couldn't possibly live out here for fear of earthquakes. Not mentioning that where they live they have deadly tornados, or hurricanes, or floods. I guess we all have our meteorological/geological crosses to bear.
Have y'all see this? It's hysterical and just horribly wrong. Brings new meaning to the phrase "Say hello to my leetle friend." Don't fudge with me, Sosa!
And as long as I'm YouTubing...watch this...
For the last two weeks I have had this ridiculously catchy theme song to Phineas and Ferb stuck in my head. It's driving me CRAZY! Okay, I realize that was a bit cruel of me to now get it stuck in all of your heads, but maybe getting it into somebody else's brain will expel it from mine! "So stick with us 'cause Phineas and Ferb are gonna do it all. (Deceptive cadence...) So stick with us 'cause Phineus and Ferb are gonna do it all. (Full cadence resolution).
Okay, run on over to Miss Keely at The Unmom for more thoughts.

Ha! I read your disclaimer and so did not watch the Phineas and Ferb video - the last thing I need is a song stuck in my head.
You're the second blogger in Southern California I've read today that described the earthquake that hit in those exact terms - swaying and rolling, like on a boat.
I went to the grocery store Sunday morning and noticed several people in what obviously passes for "Easter" attire these days. Two little girls in particular, were wearing skin-tight, hot-pink, sequined mini-dresses with matching hot-pink, sequined flip flops. Like you, we were always dressed in suits and frilly dresses with hats and gloves and lacy socks with our patent leather Maryjanes.

We still get dressed up for Easter; that's half the fun! And seeing all the little cuties in church dressed up.
We generally didn't go places on school breaks when the kids were little. Too broke. Now we do a little better. There is hope...
Earthquake sounds scary. I can't imagine. Glad you're okay.

There's 104 day of summer vacation till school comes along just to end them. Ahhh, we love phineas and ferb.
I dressed the boys up for Easter (as well as PB). THey had on dress shirts with sweater vests and little knee pants (too warm for a suit jacket out our way). There was a sad dearth of little girls in cute dresses, though. Made me sad.

Having lived in earthquake territory and tornado territory, I'll take earthquakes any day. I have many friends who don't understand how I could move back out west, because they're frightened to death of earthquakes. Seriously, though, by the time you figure out there's an earthquake, it's pretty much over. Tornado warnings go on for ages, and you end up huddled in your basement, or if you don't have one, squished together in a coat closet, hoping a twister (a) doesn't touch down, and (b) misses your house if it does. It's horrible.
Anywho, glad you had a great Easter!

The other weird thing about this quake is that it lasted FOREVER. The whole experience was very...disorienting.
And nothing wrong with Anaheim, dude! ;)

I think P&F has to be the most clever cartoon out there right now. I'll sit down with Sprite to watch it. I was wondering if you had felt anything out there in LA, glad you're okay!

Scarface. It's just so wrong, but I'm still laughing.
